Biomedical science is the application of the principles of natural sciences to knowledge, interventions, or technology that is of use in healthcare or public health.
The program focuses on how cells, organs and systems function in the human body, an exciting and dynamic area that is highly relevant to the understanding and treatment of human diseases. It deals with scientific basis of health and disease in humans and is currently the most rapidly developing area in basic biological science involving Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Human Genetics. It adapts a multidisciplinary approach,, revolutionized research, stimulating growth in a wide range of industries including agriculture, pharmaceutical, veterinary science and medical research.
Biomedical science has plentiful opportunities in hospital & Medical industry, Research institutes Pharmaceuticals, Medical coding, biomedical research, entry to professional study like genetic counselling, clinical embryology, cancer biology and medical imaging, marketing & sales – product development and testing, food industry etc.,
On completion of the undergraduate programme, there is ample scope for doing Post graduate and doctoral studies in wide areas of research.
CARDIO VASCULAR TECHNOLOGY
The graduate program in Cardiovascular Technology consists of three years of clinical faculty supervised theoretic learning and one-year internship programme.The cardiovascular technologist is qualified by specific didactic, laboratory, and clinical technological education to perform and/or assist in various invasive and non-invasive cardiovascular procedures. Upon completion of the 3-year course and one-year internship the candidates will evolve into a full trained, qualified cardiovascular technologist capable of working independently.
The role of the cardiovascular technologistswereto review and/or record patient history, performing appropriate clinical procedures of cardiovascular diagnostic and therapeutic services and also participating in interventional cardiovascular catheterization and/or cardiac electrophysiology procedures.
Cardiovascular technologists may provide their services to patients in any medical setting under the supervision of a doctor. The job opportunities for cardiovascular technologist were available in invasive cardiovascular catheterization laboratories, cardiac electrophysiology labs, non-invasive cardiovascular laboratories, including adult and paediatric echocardiography laboratories etc.
CARDIOVASCULAR PERFUSION TECHNOLOGY
Perfusionists are health professionals who are trained to operate, maintain, and record the output of a cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) machine which is also known as a heart-lung machine. Perfusionists also participate in heart surgeries as well as cardiac transplants, cardiovascular surgeries, and specialized chemotherapy procedures. They are also experts of other life support equipment such as ventricular assist devices,Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)and intra-aortic balloon pumps.The personnel who carry out these responsibilities also must have adequate knowledge of structure and function of the human body, especially the cardiovascular system

CRITICAL CARE TECHNOLOGY
Critical care technologists (CCT) are healthcare professionals who focuses on improving the quality of patient care through safe and effective usage of medical equipment, such as modern airway devices, ventilators,electronic infusion pumps, and arterial pulse oximeters.
This course provides special training in physiology and technology for delivering appropriate care to critically ill patients. It provides special training in health care along with expert knowledge in physiology & technology involved in delivering critical care to patients as a part of multidisciplinary team. This course trains the students to adapt with wide-ranging functions evolving with changes in technology, patient therapy & service needs.
Critical care technologist arrive on the scene to assist during health emergencies. These professionals can treat a variety of injuries or physical ailments, as well as transport patients to a hospital for extended treatment. There are good job opportunities in Health Care industry in India and abroad. CCTs with passion for teaching and research can opt for post graduation and Doctorate programs.
DIABETIC CARE TECHNOLOGY
This program is intended to train Diabetes Educators or Diabetic care Technologist who work along with doctorsto care and patients with diabetes.
Diabetic educators will be able to counsel patients about diet, initiate insulin therapy, provide psychological support etc; on an individual basis and also organise group education sessions on diabetes and its implications to patients and their relatives.
The program includes courses on medical nutrition therapy, basic podiatric care and essential statistics which would enable them to give dietary advice, podiatric care and conduct clinical audits and data entry.
This program will enable the successful candidate to work as physician assistant in diabetology department or in a clinic or hospital, specializing in Diabetes to assist the physician in clinical tasks and also participate in clinical management. There is increased scope for employment after completion of this course.
Dialysis Technologist are healthcare professionals who performs and monitor renal replacement therapies such as haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and continuous renal replacement therapy for patients with chronic kidney disease or acute kidney injury.The increasing incidence and prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in recent years lead to the invention of modern technology and techniques in the dialysis process and opened many new options for those who require frequent dialysis procedures.
Three-year graduate program with one-yearof compulsory internship in Dialysis provides students with the opportunity to study the basic medical science of the renal system, principles and practise of dialysis technology including monitoring and troubleshooting and recent advancement in dialysis technology.
A dialysis technologist can set up, evaluate, operate, and troubleshoot dialysis machines, and this knowledge can be used to find work in quality control or other areas in dialysis machine manufacturing. In addition to the renal replacement therapies, the students were trained in specialised extracorporeal procedures such as hemoperfusion, plasmapheresis, liver dialysis, immunoadsorption and immunomodulation techniques.
Dialysis Technologist are employed in hospitals and private practices also a career in teaching and research, following the completion of a higher degree such as a Ph.D. is also available. There are plenty of job opportunities for employment overseas where their qualifications, training and experience are highly regarded. Graduates have good employment prospects, and will enter a field in which the demand for professionals has increased in recent years. Increase in the number of patients with end-stage renal disease ensures a large demand for future graduates.
MEDICAL IMAGING TECHNOLOGY
Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology is the healthcare profession associated with the direct administration of radiation(x-rays)toassess injury and diagnosis of disease.Medical Radiology and Imaging technology is extremely specialized and advanced science requiring competently trained personnel inradiographic positioning and exposure technique.
The students will acquire a broad & detailed knowledge in medical imaging which will help them be a new generation in imaging technology by operating advanced equipment such as CT (computed tomography), MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) DSA, DEXA, mammography, CR, DR, fluoroscopy and digital mobile X-ray machines and will have the opportunity to develop important practical skills in organising radiological department.
The graduates can work as Imaging Technologists in Hospitals with Radio diagnostic facilities both in public and private sectors, as Application specialists in Medical Imaging Equipment companies.B Sc in MIT graduates have the opportunity to pursue Masters and can specialise in any of the Imaging modalities can undertake teaching positions in educational institutions in India and abroad and also can pursue research activities in Medical Imaging Technology.
MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY (MLT)
Medical laboratory technology deals with all the clinical laboratory investigations on various samples for laboratory diagnosis of different disease conditions.Presently, the practice of modern medicine would be near impossible without the tests performed in the laboratory.
A medical laboratory professional (also referred to as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Clinical Laboratory Technologist) is a healthcare professional who performs chemical, haematological, immunologic, microscopic and microbiological diagnostic analyses on body fluids, as well as other specimens.
Medical laboratory scientists work in clinical laboratories at hospitals, reference laboratories, biotechnology laboratories and non-clinical industrial labs.
Medical laboratory professionals have unlimited choices of practice settings. Hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, public health facilities, and commercial laboratories all have positions open for qualified laboratory professionals.

MEDICAL RECORD SCIENCE
Health Information Management (HIM) or Medical Record Science covers a broad spectrum of information pertaining to health of the people generated within or outside a healthcare system.
A Health Information Management technologist or Medical Record Officer is the person that compiles, processes, and maintains the medical records of hospital and clinic patients in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the health care system. He/she processes, maintains, compiles, and reports patient information for health requirements and standards in a manner consistent with the healthcare industry's numerical coding system.Perfection and accuracy in maintaining records are very vital to the health care provided to the patient as any small discrepancy can result in an untoward occurrence.
A well trained and skilled HIM professionals would be able to take up various challenging positions in public and private hospitals, public health services, health insurance sector, healthcare IT & research organizations and education institutions.
Neuro electro physiologist are healthcare professionals who are integral part of neurology department and presently they are highly in demand in all hospitals. Neuroscience is a multidisciplinary science devoted to the understanding of the nervous system. This program enables the Neuro electrophysiology (NEP) professionals to perform and interpret electrophysiology procedures. The students will acquire skills to assess the patient and plan various electro diagnostic procedures and implement them.
NEP Students are trained in Sleep studies (Polysomnography), Autonomic function tests, pre surgical evaluation of epilepsy, EEG (including Neonatal and long-term monitoring), Nerve conduction studies (NCS), Electromyogram (EMG), Visual evoked potential.

OPERATION THEATRE AND ANESTHESIA TECHNOLOGY
The Operation theatre and Anaesthesia Technology (OTAT) program trains the professional to facilitate the surgical procedures both planned and emergency , by preparing in advance the equipment that are necessary for any surgical procedures. They also play an vital role in administration and monitoring of anaesthesia and has an extensive knowledge of anaesthesia techniques, instruments, supplies, and technology.
OTAT professionals are mainly employed by anaesthesia departments or operating theatre suites, but can be found in other areas of clinical practice including emergency departments, intensive care units (ICU) and day surgery clinics.Graduates have good employment prospects, and will enter a field in which the demand for professionals has increased in recent years and will keep on increasing due to changing environment and disease conditions.
Optometry is a health care profession which is autonomous and concerned especially with examining the eye for defects and faults of refraction, with prescribing correctional lenses, eye exercises and/or visual rehabilitation care for visually impaired, with diagnosing diseases of the eye, and with treating such diseases or referring them for treatment.
Optometrists are primary health care practitioners of the eye and visual system who provide comprehensive eye and vision care, which includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnosis and co-management of disease in the eye and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system
The training will enable a student to become a competent person in providing service as an Optometrist and Refractionist to the community.
There is ample scope for the graduates to Practice in optical establishments, job opportunities in abroad, clinical services to multinationals dealing, with the manufacturing and distribution of ophthalmic lenses, contact lenses and ophthalmic instruments and even run an optical shop.
Graduates interested in higher studies can join for M.Sc. and Ph D programs and take up teaching Optometry as their career.
Physician Assistants (PA) are healthcare professionals trained to provide diagnostic, therapeutic andpreventive health care services in all health specialties, as delegated by a doctor.
The Physician Assistants work in different departments such as Out-Patient units, Operation theatres, Catheterization labs, Cardiac care units, Intensive care units, Organ Transplant units, Reproductive Medicine, general medicine, ENT, nephrology, urology, gastroenterology, paediatrics, geriatrics Obstetrics department, Orthopaedics and trauma care, Radiation therapy unit and Nuclear Medicine.
The scope of this course is fabulous in our country. Plenty of job opportunities are available in medical software companies, medical coding, medical transcription, pharma industry, medical devices manufacturing companies, medical tourism, and medical insurance. Besides, they will be appointed as coordinators for various clinical trials.
Radiotherapy which is also called as radiation oncology/ radiation therapy is the use ofionizing radiation to treat malignant or benign diseases associated with various organs. Radiotherapy is almost similar to chemotherapy, and is used before, during, and/or after chemotherapy in susceptible cancers.
Radiotherapy Technologists are important healthcare professionals in the fight against tumour.The Radiotherapy Technologist (RTT) is a member of the multidisciplinary team comprised primarily of the clinician(radiation oncologist), medical physicist and support staff as considered necessary in the local setting. They are theprofessionals with direct responsibility for the daily administration of radiotherapy treatment to cancer patients.
Another unique feature of this programme is that it was approved by AERB (Atomic energy regulatory body) and the students are given appropriate communicative skills to enable them to provide the needed emotional support as part of quality patient care.
Employment of radiation therapists is projected to grow at a faster pace, much faster than the average for all occupations. Work as therapeutic radiographer delivering a technically advanced and caring service in hospitals.
REPRODUCTIVE MEDICINE & EMBRYOLOGY
There is an increased prevalence of infertility among general population. This program gives extensive training in the field of reproductive medicine, Andrology and Embryology to the students to enable them to supervise the entire IVF laboratory.
The program objectives were to develop a basic understanding of anatomy and physiology of the male and female reproductive system. biochemistry, Endocrinology and pharmacologyused in reproductive medicine.
Students will be trained for processing for both techniques – intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in – vitro fertilization (IVF) and cryopreservation.
Students will be able to set up an IVF (in – vitro Fertilization) laboratory.
This course offers good placement opportunities in Multi – Specialty hospitals and institutions.
Respiratory Therapy is an upcoming branch of Healthcare profession devoted to the scientific application of technology in order to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, management and care of patients with cardiopulmonary and associated disorders.
Respiratory Therapists are important members of modern healthcare teams. They have specialized medical expertise and use their knowledge and skills to provide safe, high-quality care to the patients.

TRAUMA CARE MANAGEMENT
Emergency Medicine Technologist plays a vital role for patients requiring immediate medical assistance during acute illness, injuries, and accidents. This Program is about managing trauma, from minor injury to life threatening emergencies, including injuries in adults, paediatrics and elderly, with the principal goal of improving quality of care and patient safety.
Candidates trained in Trauma care management are the first to be called in case of traumatic emergencies in healthcare centres.
The curriculum is based on the medical model. Instruction in medical and behavioural sciences, such as anatomy, microbiology, pharmacology, pathology, physiology, haematology, surgery, clinical medicine, and physical diagnosis, followed by clinical rotations in internal medicine, family medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, oncology, emergency medicine, and geriatric medicine are provided.
